Gemstones

Kristallen AB was started in 1982 by Agne and Barbro Söderström in the little village of Lannavaara in Swedish Lapland.  The thought behind the company was to work with gold and precious-stones tourism in combination with an own production of stone jewelry.  To our delight, the company has grown to such a degree over the past 20 years that it is an established center for foremost educations in metals and precious stones.

Lannavaara lies 140 km northeast of Kiruna with its 120 inhabitants, and has increased in size with 20 students following a three-year university program in gemstone technique at Kristallen AB in cooperation with the Luleå University of Technology.

The company has built up a unique knowledge over the years within gemmology (the science of gemstones) and carries out not only educations in prospecting, but also within different working techniques for gemstones, goldsmith educations and gemmology educations with international status. Kristallen AB is internationally accredited to hold international educations in gemmology as a distance center under the Gemmological Association of Great Britian.  Even Norwegian students have found their way to the company in the little village, whereof about ten take courses via Aetat in Norway (Norwegian employment authority) at Kristallen AB.

Since 2005, the company has even obtained the rights as a distance center to run the international diamond grading educations under the Gemmological Association of Great Britain.  As it happens, in 1996 the first diamond in Sweden was found in a stone slab in the Kiruna municipality.  The company decided to educate Torbjörn Lindwall on the subject, who took his international exam in 2005 with the highest marks and traveled down to London to receive the Deeks Diamond Prize for the best examination in the world that year.
